Get ready: dog paperwork and precautions

Before going on vacation with your four-legged friend, you should take some simple precautions to ensure your holiday goes smoothly.

Do not forget at home your dog’s paperwork, like passport (even if in Italy it’s not mandatory), health card, canine registry etc. It is always useful to have them with you.

If your dog doesn’t have a medal, add one to his collar with his name and your phone number, in case your dog goes missing. The medal will help you find your dog, in addition to the microchip, which instead is not always practical: each region has a different canine registry that is not even always up to date.

It may be useful to save on your mobile phone a few names of vets and clinics within the area you are planning to visit.

Our last precaution regards the use of muzzles and retractable leashes: if your dog has previously been trained to these tools, he will not be stressed by the possibility of having to wear them on demand and the experience will be less traumatic.

None of us would like to deal with unexpected events and emergencies, that’s why it is important to take the right precautions to limit the consequences of unpleasant situations.
